ROADBLOCKERS    H.O. KitBash

This page is for H.O. scale kit bash projects.

These four trucks represent what could be coming in the future from Boley. The yellow truck at the top left, is a new International 7000 series cab and the F.D.N.Y. style Seagrave pumper body. The tanker has a new International cab as well. The brush truck in the lower left corner has a GMC Topkick cab. The red and white pumper also has a new International cab.

This is a mobile kitchen I kit bashed for a diorama I am going to make of a large forest fire base camp. I used a Walthers 45' semi van. I cut out the window openings, and an opening in one of the rear swing out door, for a smaller entry door. The lights on the side are clear light bar parts from Boley lightbars, with the tops painted black. The vents on the trailer sides were made from HO scale window louvers. The top has three sky lights made from HO scale windows. The roof vents were from the HO scale buildings parts box. The deck was made from scale aluminum building siding. The rails were made from old fire truck ladders. The decals are from my CDF sheet, and a Sheriff sheet donated the "Emergency Operations" lettering. I am not sure about the interior right now.

The CDF crew bus has a new International cab added. The Department of Corrections and Puerta La Cruz lettering is from my CDF sheet. The USFS low boy was made using a Wiking trailer. I added a new deck made from a PikeStuff building. I added a Boley tail light assembly from a dump truck. The "Wide Load" sign was made from my CDF sheet.

These are the new Boley GMC TopKick cabs with Seagrave pump bodies on them. The Boley version will have an all new commercial pump body. The yellow truck had the crows nest hollowed out, and twin hose reels installed. The axles were raised and wide off road tires were added. I also added a brush guard and mini light bar to it. The roof light bar was custom made using parts from various Boley lights. The red truck was left as the FDNY style body. I added a custom clear light bar to the roof, and decal stripe to the door.

This is a Boley International with a custom fire body. I took a Boley flatbed and added a cut down S&S brush truck body to the flatbed. I also added the fuel tanks from a Boley semi to the chassis and a step behind the rear wheels. The light on the roof is a clear dome from one of the Lindberg MX7000 light bars. I painted it red, and then put a small decal stripe on the bottom to simulate the base. The pump was weathered. The hose reels were painted body colors and the hose was painted a flat red. A spare tire was added between the hose reels. The wheels are Boley's painted white. The USFS decals are from Fowlers 1/43 scale sheet, and the white stripes and lettering are from my CDF sheet.

This Boley Forest Service truck also started as a flatbed. I cut another S&S brush body down and mounted it to the flat bed. I mounted the hose reels and pump behind the body. I added a covered compartment above the reels and pump. The ladders are from a Boley pumper. I used the fuel tank/step combination from a Boley CDF crew bus for the front steps, and regular International steps on the rear doors. The wheels are from an Athearn Ford C cab. Decals are same as above.

This Forest Service rig was made using a new Boley International 4300 with the S&S brush body on it. I cut the front of the brush body off, and added a pump panel from a Boley top mount Spartan that I  modified.  I cut out one of the rear sides and added a hose reel. I also added a cabinet to the rear with plenty of diamond plate. A spare tire was added to the roof. Wheels are from an Athearn Ford C cab. The lightbar is custom made from Boley parts.

The new 4300 cab International has had a brush guard added to the front. A custom made Strobe light bar was added to the roof. The hose reels were painted with flat red. There is a spare tire mounted between the hose reels. New decals were added. The wheels were painted white. The International 4900 four door has new decals added. I also added new red lights to the grille, yellow flasher to the rear, and side work lights. All were made with foil tape that was painted with Tamiya clear red and yellow.

The stake bed truck is an Athearn Ford C that has been repainted. I added a light bar and wheels from a Boley truck.  The tanker (water tender) is a Boley with an Athearn Kenworth cab added.

The above truck is a work in progress. It is a Boley Seagrave cab mated to the S&S tanker body. It needs detail painting and decals.

This is the front of  the Vollmer 5 bay station. It also came with an office and a 6 story tower. I will be working on those two pieces as well. The station was built basically from the box.

This is a shot of the rear. It has a deck with seperate doors above each bay. Not sure what I am going to do here. Visible are some flower planters and foliage that I added to the basic station, as well as a large sign mounted to the roof. I had used this as a THW (Technical Rescue Service) station on my train layout.

I have already decided that the five bays were too small, so I am going with two very large bays and one small bay. I removed all of the doors from the original kit. Looking at the front windows, I thought they looked too small. I cut down the old doors by one pane and will use them in place of the kit windows. I removed the trim from the front.  In this photo, you can see where the new windows will go, and what the two large bays will look like. For the new bay doors, I am using the siding from a Pikestuff fire station kit. More to come.

This is the Mack MR squad from Matchbox, mated to a Boley Seagrave pumper body, and the engine cover from an AHM Mack pumper. The Mack CF squad is the rear portion of the Matchbox with an extra piece added to the rear to make it look like an older squad body. Both are works that are in progress.

This is a Boley Seagrave with a Model Power HO scale Peterbilt cab. The pumper body had a hose reel from the parts box added. The hose load from the top of the driver side compartment was removed, and diamond plate was added. The rest was detail painting and stripes.

This is a Boley brush truck that has had the body shortened. A new front bulkhead was made from diamond plate. The pump was cut down, and one of the hose reels was placed in the rear where the pump was. Diamond plate was added to the top, and the hose load from the  Seagrave pumper above was added to the top driver side along with a yellow light from a Roco parts pack. The axles were raised up and wheels and tires from a Roco kit were used.

This tanker is a Boley truck and a custom made tank. The tank was an HO scale semi. I cut the tank down to size, and made a new front bulkhead.  The remainder of the pump from the kitbash above was added to the driver side frame, along with a section of hose from the Seagrave . The hard suction hose holder and ladder are from a Preiser HO scale kit. The hose reel on the back is the left over from the above truck. The compartment on the passenger side is from the parts box. The wheels are from a Preiser kit.

Above is a Boley Spartan cab with a new Boley tanker added.  The cab mounting pin was cut off, and the plastic projections on the pump panel were sanded off. Holes were drilled in the cab and pump panel, and they were screwed together. The wheels were painted yellow. The four door pumper is the cab from the tanker, and the pump body from the Spartan. I cut off the step area and removed the top pump panel markings. Then I painted in some of the pump panel details with silver paint. The two pieces were then screwed together. Wheels were painted yellow. The blue decal stripe is from one of my police car sheets.

The red truck is a Boley USFS brush truck repainted with added lights. The four door International has new decals added.

The above ladder truck started as a Boley Spartan pumper. The hose loads were removed, and the pumper body was cut off at the top of the driver side cabinets. The deck was made with sheet plastic painted aluminum. The ladder mount was made from sheet plastic as well. The ladder from an AHM Mack ladder was added. A hose reel from a Boley brush truck was added to the driver side, and a step ladder from a Preiser kit was added to the deck on the passenger side. No other modifications were made.

The above Boley brush truck is a repaint. I added red and blue lights to the brush guard. The grille decal is from my CDF Fire sheet, and the stripe is from my Phoenix Fire Department sheet.

The CDF crew bus below is a Boley cab with a body from a Praline German HO scale box truck. The windows are represented by blue decal strips. The compartments were scratch built. The rest was detail painting and decals from my CDF sheet. This truck was sent to Boley and then on to China for size and mock up work, and was then produced as a new Boley release for December of 2002.
